THE PROGRAM

This season’s guest: Sarah Andelman

As co-founder and creative director of colette, the trailblazing Parisian concept store, from 1997 to 2017, curation became second nature to Sarah Andelman. So it should come as no surprise that Le Bon Marché decided to hand her the keys to the store for an exhibition on the boundless world of books.

The publisher of Just an Idea Books – a literary collection that shines a light on unusual artists and emerging talents – is bringing her passion for bookshops, art and the world of publishing to the shelves of the department store.

One space, one chapter

Just an Idea Books and Friends

On the first floor, Sarah Andelman presents “Just an Idea Books and Friends”: a space dedicated to her publishing house and her favourite artists. It features the work of photographers Charles Bebert and RK, the furniture of Aline Asmar d’Amman, the creations of Inès Melia and a selection of unique bookends. Five new books, published by her and exclusively available at Le Bon Marché, complete the collection and mark the occasion.

Bookshops around the world

Sarah Andelman has brought together her favourite bookshops on the ground floor. From Paris’s Shakespeare & Co and Ofr. to Tokyo’s Cow Books and New York’s The Strand and Pillow-Cat Books, you will find merchandise from these prestigious stores – real collector’s items – at Le Bon Marché.

Literature in all its forms

Sarah Andelman’s selection of the most coveted publishing houses is moving into the ground floor, unveiling this season’s must-have collaborations. There are not only no end of exclusive reads, but also scents, with a beauty department filled with perfectly named creations. Meanwhile, the jewellery department sees the letters of the alphabet adorned with elegant brilliant-cut diamonds in the style of an ABC book.

Jean Jullien

Sarah Andelman has invited artist Jean Jullien and his “Paper People” to take over Le Bon Marché and its windows on Rue de Sèvres. After travelling the world to Tokyo, Seoul and Brussels and touring France with Nantes and Carnoët, his 2D figures are touching down on the Rive Gauche. They can be found on the second floor in the space dedicated to his brand, NouNou, and in the café and delicatessen developed with Phamily First. Visitors also have the chance to discover the illustrator’s latest collaborations with Rhodia, Caran d’Ache and plenty of other surprises besides!
